Chicago's State Street in 1963
An August 1963 photo of 126-146 North State Street in Chicago. These buildings were part of the old Block 37 that was demolished in 1989. The block sat vacant for nearly 20 years and is now home to an office tower (housing CBS and Morningstar, Inc.) and a shopping mall. Lake Shore Drive in 1973
An October 1973 photo of Chicago's Lake Shore Drive, posted on Flickr by the U.S. National Archives. Prior to 1996, the northbound lanes were on the east side of the Field Museum. Moving the lanes to the west side of the museum and Soldier field allowed the development of the Museum Campus, which opened on June 4, 1998.
