Richard J. Daley at the 1968 Democratic National Convention

Chicago delegates at the 1968 Democratic Convention react to speech by Abe Ribicoff

Illinois delegates, including Mayor Richard J. Daley, reacting to Connecticut Senator Abraham Ribicoff's speech at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. Ribicoff famously referred to the crackdown on protesters by Chicago police as "Gestapo in the streets of Chicago."

In his magnificent "Boss" bio of Daley, Mike Royko described a claim by George Dunne, the president of the Cook County Board, that Daley and other Chicago delegates where shouting "faker, faker." But a lip reader determined that Daley was using another F word, along with other strong language.
